Virtual machine (VM)

A complete emulated computer with its own kernel and operating system, such as Debian, Kali or Windows Server.

A virtual machine emulates a whole computer, with its own kernel and operating system. It is heavier than a container but can run anything a real machine can, including Windows. In Isothrum, a VM machine names an operating system and the steps that set it up.
